At the Premium Beauty & Health Show that took place in Tokyo from Feb. 6 to evening 9, I discovered a new type of shampoo, again, fitting the concept of “time-saving“, in favor of busy life that we all lead.
About 405 Cleansing Conditioner
405 Cleansing Conditioner is a hair care product launched in February this year under the brand “nanoTime Beauty” by a Japanese company Time Lab. The product is made in the USA.
405 Cleansing Conditioner is a hair care product gathering 4 functions:
- Cleanse: but with treatment and not with shampoo
- Moisturize: with conditioning ingredients
- Restore: with natural ingredients
- Scalp care: through the massage and soothing ingredients
405 Cleansing Conditioner does not contain regular surfactants but uses instead mild ones from natural origins, some of which are used in skincare:
- Stearyl alcohol
- Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine
- PEG-60 almond glycerides
In addition, it contains menthol that deep cleanses the hair follicles and provides a fresh feeling.
The following natural ingredients included in the product penetrate hair and brings moisture and softness.
- Aloe Vera
The formula includes the following ingredients that repair hair damage and bring body to hair.
Scalp care function:
This hair care product is to be applied on to the scalp and to be massaged. The following ingredients help to soothe the scalp and maintain it in a healthy condition by stimulating the blood circulation.
- Prunus Serotina (Wild Cherry) Bark Extract
405 Cleansing Conditioner review
I was offered a bottle of this new product at the exhibition so I gave it a try!
The way of use is similar to a regular shampoo:
- Rinse hair with water
- Apply the cream on hair and scalp
- Massage the scalp
- Leave for a few minutes
The bottle is a pump that contains the product which is a rather solid / heavy white cream. When in contact with wet hair and scalp, it becomes much easier to spread. It doesn’t foam and feels like a hair treatment.
The manufacturer suggests a huge amount of use (12 to 15 push for long hair) for hair and scalp. However, after a few trials, I think half of it is enough to cover both hair and scalp.
The fragrance is quite strong and it smells of rose, but unfortunately a very cheap rose, which is a shame as it’s about the only negative point I find to this product. Nonetheless, I got used to the smell and it is no longer bothering me, even though the first time, it was almost unbearable.
The menthol effect is felt during the leaving time and the scalp feels VERY cool; it is almost too cool in winter, especially if you apply a big amount.
The hair doesn’t get tangled, and while rinsing, it feels soft, just like a hair treatment and not a shampoo.
There is no need to use any additional hair care product as it is an all-in-one shampoo and treatment.
I have a very fine hair and I always get a mass of tangles after the shower. However with 405 Cleansing Conditioner, I could easily pass the comb through the hair, which helps not creating any stress, therefore any extra damage to the hair.
After drying the hair, it felt incredibly soft. The product has a coating effect and it felt like every single hair got bodyfied and strengthened with a healthy shine. I was worried that the product would be too rich and imagined my roots to be oily but no extra heaviness was felt even for my thin hair.
I was suspicious about the cleansing power of a non-foaming hair care but the scalp felt clean and I had no itchiness nor irritation.
I highly recommend this hair care because of its numerous advantages:
- it shortens time as shampoo and conditioner are replaced by one product
- it cleanses properly even though it uses mild surfactants
- it strengthens hair and brings softness and shine
I have been suffering from hands eczemas for many years and each time I use detergents such as during dish washing or house cleaning, I make sure to wear gloves as surfactants terribly aggravate my eczemas. Even with shampoo and treatment, I sometimes feel irritation on my hands and my eczmas get worse. 405 Cleansing Conditioner does not roughen my hands and for me, it’s probably the best point about this product, as it shows how gentle it is.
No poo shampoo is not new and in the recent years it rose in popularity as skepticism about surfactants increased. The theory behind is that washing hair too often with shampoo will dry out the scalp, which in return will produce more sebum to compensate. I had never tried any no poo method so far and this product does include some surfactants even though they are from natural origins. Nonetheless, I do feel my scalp produces less sebum since I started using the 405 Cleansing Conditioner; it may have a positive sebum regulating effect.
The no poo movement is actually extended to skincare as well. The face cleanser I presented in another has a similar concept: instead of a foam with harsh chemicals to wash your face, do it with a beauty cream.
No poo or no surfactant seems to be the trend in cosmetics. So for those who wanted to go no poo, but still felt hesitant about giving up on all products, this one may be a good alternative.
